Mezzanine Racking: Load & Safety Rules

The mezzanine racking system usually uses medium-duty shelving racks or heavy-duty shelving racks as the main support, and is equipped with mezzanine floor panels. The mezzanine floor panels are usually made of cold-rolled steel floor slabs, checkered steel floor slabs or steel grating floor slabs to increase the storage space. Two or three-story mezzanines can be built,w hich are suitable for storing and retrieving some light goods as well as small and medium-sized items.

It is applicable to goods with multiple varieties in large quantities or multiple varieties in small quantities, and the goods are manually stored and retrieved. It has the advantages of strong bearing capacity, good integrity, good load uniformity, high precision, smooth surface, and easy locking. There are various types to choose from, and it is easy to match with the lighting system, making storage, retrieval and management relatively convenient. The goods are usually transported to the second or third floor by forklifts, hydraulic lifts or freight elevators, and then transported to a certain position by light carts or hydraulic pallet trucks.

The following are key precautions when using mezzanine floor racks, including comprehensive safety standards, operating points, and maintenance requirements:

1Safe load-bearing management

Overloading is strictly prohibited

The load on each floor should be strictly controlled within the design range (usually 300-1000kg/), and heavy goods should be placed on the bottom floor first to avoid structural imbalance caused by "top heavy, top light".

Special scenarios (such as mechanical parts storage) require a 20% load-bearing allowance to meet temporary stacking requirements.

Load distribution

The goods should be placed evenly to avoid deformation of the crossbeam or tilting of the column caused by uneven loading.

The forklift operation area needs additional reinforcement, and the local dynamic load on the floor slab needs to be calculated at 1.5 times the static load.

2Operating standards

Equipment usage

Forklift drivers must hold a certificate and operate at a low speed (≤ 5km/h) while staying at least 0.5 meters away from the shelf pillars.

Manual hydraulic forklifts are limited to platforms with small load-bearing capacity (≤ 500kg/) and must avoid diving impact on floor slabs.

Access process

High frequency retrieval goods should be placed on the lower layer, while low-frequency goods should be stored on the upper layer to improve operational efficiency.

When transporting goods on the lifting platform and cargo elevator, it is necessary to ensure that the center of gravity of the goods is stable to prevent overturning.

3Structural maintenance

Regular inspection

Check the welding points, bolt connections, and verticality of columns every month (deviation ≤ 1/1000). If rust or deformation is found, stop maintenance immediately.

Steel grating floor slabs need to be regularly cleaned of debris to prevent blockage of drainage holes 824.

Environmental protection

Anti rust paint should be sprayed in humid environments, and special cold-rolled steel material and anti-corrosion coating 224 should be used in cold storage.

Avoid direct sunlight that may cause coating aging. It is recommended to control the temperature in the warehouse between -10 ℃ and 40 ℃.

4Fire Protection and Emergency Response

Each floor needs to reserve a fire escape of ≥ 1.2 meters, and the platform material should be A-grade fireproof steel buckle plate (wooden board is prohibited) 712.

Guardrail height ≥ 1.05 meters, kickboard height 100-150mm, and safety belt 914 must be worn for edge operations.

By standardizing usage and regular maintenance, mezzanine floor rack can increase space utilization by 200% ~300%, while extending their service life to over 10 years.
